Richmond, VA – What begins as a one-time experiment with substances for many people leads them down a slippery path to full-blown substance use disorder, which sometimes becomes fatal. As a result, family members are left to grapple with the aftermath, and many seek practical solutions for their loved ones to snatch them from the jaws of substance abuse. McShin Foundation was founded in 2004 to equip recovering individuals with the tools to turn their lives around and create positive lifestyles. Their staff spreads the word of recovery and shows people that it is possible to recover! They offer sober living in recovery houses, a 28-day recovery program that is akin to addiction treatment, and have partnered with top physicians dealing with drug and alcohol detoxification.
“By me coming to The McShin Foundation, it gave me the opportunity to grow while in a program. It works – it has helped me. I have been shown great love in this program and have been given the opportunity to sit down and address some of the issues I have had going on in my life. I am grateful to McShin for allowing me to come here when I had nowhere else to go,” said one of the patients.
The 28-day residential program is a treatment program that combines clinical and authentic peer recovery support services to bring long-lasting results. Participants are housed in safe halfway housing and offered personalized recovery coaching along with recovery education and relapse prevention groups. Further, the participants that need detox or medical services are provided that through partnerships with medical detox, addiction psychiatry, and therapy. The program is seeks to incorporate fun activities and shows participants that recovery can be fun – the participants go white water rafting, rock climbing, visit museums, and hold their own recovery events.
The recovery residences are open and accessible throughout the year for anybody ready to begin or continue their journey of recovery. The recovering individuals in the residences have access to addiction treatment in Richmond and Glen Allen. They’re provided with a safe space, structure, and accountability plans to help them rebuild their lives. As part of the accountability plan, sober living residents have to attend weekly community meetings and sign up for a recovery pathway. The personnel at McShin Foundation are certified by the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR) and are highly qualified and trained to work with all the recovering individuals and their families empathetically.
McShin Foundation also runs jail-based recovery programs for inmates who need help to recover from substance use disorders in correctional facilities.
